Edith/Cory Pass attempt

  • January 18, 2003
  • Ascent time: 2:40
  • Descent time: 1:45
Solo hike.

You simply can't beat winter scenery in the mountains. The price to see that scenery, however, can sometimes be quite high - wading through waist-deep snow, crossing steep, snow-covered avalanche slopes, and what feels like endless kilometres of strenuous hiking. My trip to Edith Pass was not quite that dramatic, but it did involve a long hike to finally get to see spectacular Mounts Edith and Louis. Unfortunately, a dangerous looking traverse across an avalanche slope stopped my trip short of Cory Pass. I stepped out onto the slope and sunk passed my waist into the deep snow. That was all I needed to make a hasty retreat.
