Hiking and snowshoeing with Mark.

Fortress Ridge is another hike that is perfectly suited for the winter. Enroute to the summit you have to hike right through the Fortres ski area, and we received a few inquisitive stares, as we made our way up and down several ski runs on our snowshoes. The scenery throughout was beautiful and would have been stunning had it not clouded over for most of the trip. The views of the Fortress were fantastic. Also of note, were some impressive, wind-blown formations of snow. There trip is somewhat of a rollercoaster ride, as you are constantly gaining and then losing elevation. If you are going in winter, take snowshoes or skis.

More interesting snow!

On descent, the combination of cloud and sun made for some very unique and ominous lighting conditions
