Grotto Mountain

  • October 13, 2001
  • Mountain height: 2,706 m (8,878 feet)
  • Elevation gain: 1,425 m
  • Round-trip time: just over 6 hours

Solo scramble.

A long, tiring trip with a so-so view. I wanted to try ascending via the "moderate" rated route and then descend along the "easy" route, however, I messed up somewhere near the bottom of the mountain and ended up taking the easy route to the summit. Near the summit the wind was incredibly strong and I considered retreating a couple of times. It was extremely cold at the top, and therefore I didn't stay there very long. A great hike for some intense exercise, but not much more than that.
