Scrambling with Mark, Keri, Mum, and Larry.

We left the parking lot at 9:15 am, on this cloudy and rainy Sunday. Our goal was the south summit. I also wanted to try the northeast and north peaks, but it seems that was not in the cards for today. As we slowly ascended, the clouds gave way and we were treated to great views of the Kananaskis Lakes. Leaving the official trail, we headed towards the south summit. A little ways up there was a wonderful view of all three peaks of Indefatigable and a green coloured tarn below, surrounded by snow. As we got nearer to the south summit, I veered off the trail to complete the summit doing hands-on scrambling and climbing up the rockier, steeper part of the mountain. For the most part it was alot of fun, however, loose rock and a few trickier sections caused me some stress and I was glad to arrive at the more level ridge. From there it was only about 10 minutes to the summit. I was joined by the rest of the gang shortly. I was very impressed that Larry had made it - almost 1 full kilometer straight up and about 4 km on foot.

At the top, the west wind was blowing fiercely and unfortunately this made my attempt to traverse to the north summit a very short one. It would have been foolish to attempt it by myself and in the opposite direction that Kane recommends. It's easy to see why this hike is so popular - the views were phenomenal - Mount Joffre, Warrior Mountain, Sarrail to the south, Wintour, King Creek Ridge, Grizzly, and the Opal Range to the northwest, to mention a few. Our descent was a little slow and so Mark and I detoured down the south peak to check out the tarn. The whole area was beautiful. We probably could have made the northeast peak, but decided to save it for another day. A very enjoyable day, and I'm proud of Mum and Larry for making the summit.
