Solo scramble.

There are some scrambles that are quite pointless unless the weather is absolutely perfect  - this is one of them

Tangle Ridge boasts spectacular views of some of the giants and most well-known peaks of the Columbia Icefields area and of all of the Canadian Rockies - North and South Twin, Columbia, Athabasca, and Andromeda to name a few. Unfortunately, a completely clear day is required to see these amazing spectacles, as even minor cloud cover usually envelopes their summits. Given this situation, you really take your chances going up Tangle Ridge when the conditions are anything less than perfect. The scramble itself is just a tedious slog up scree slopes. Only the stunning glaciated scenery to the west provides any interest.

At the summit, the view was great, but could have been unbelievable, had clouds not covered the highest summits. Still, Athabasca and Andromeda were cloud-free and Kitchener and Stutfield, with their "cake with icing on top" look, dominated the landscape. Also, there was a decent view of Mount Alberta, as well as the entire length of Sunwapta Peak. I stayed at the summit for a while, hoping that the clouds would move on to reveal North Twin and Mount Columbia (the second and third highest peaks in the Canadian Rockies), but they just sat there - taunting me! Eventually, the high winds and frigid temperatures caught up with me and I had to leave.

Overall, this scramble fell short of my expectations, and I really didn't feel any sense of accomplishment upon completing it. At least I get to cross it off the list.
