Free evaluation resources for developing countries.
Response 1.

Hi all

First, thanks very much (!) to everyone for their input and to the many folks willing to help out.

This is the first part of my response. I'll respond in a second email to the feedback from folks.

If this project were to be about providing free training in evaluation to folks in developing countries, here is what would be needed.

1. People to help coordinate/administer the project and the training program.

2. People to help prepare the lessons. Some people could prepare the lessons, others could review.

3. An organization willing to house the training material, e.g., a website, and so on.

4. I'm thinking people could get some kind of certification at the end of the 'training', so an organization that could provide a certification.

5. The organization (and people) to help with the technological aspects of the training. Set up the website, registration, record keeping of who took the class, etc.

The model I'm thinking of is HRSA's Public Health Training Centers   http://bhpr.hrsa.gov/publichealth/phtc.htm
like those listed here  http://gsociology.icaap.org/methods/training.html

6. Someplace and someone to set up a discussion list to talk about how to do this. This could be a yahoo or google group, or if any organization is willing, a listserv somewhere.

7. People to help with advertising, marketing, networking, etc...

8. Maybe people to look for funding to do any of the above.

9. My amazing wife made the suggestion that this program itself should be evaluated. So people to do that.

10. People to continue to have input on this project, what we should be doing, what things to keep in mind, make suggestions, etc.

I can do some of this, like set up a discussion group on yahoo or google (you don't have to have an account to be on their list), and some other things. Anyone want to assign themselves to any of these activities?

Thanks again.

As always, when I post from this email list, I'm not at all representing or speaking for any organization, except my own.
