Bevel Bar


  • Open a 300 x 25 canvas, then set these as your colors
    Foreground: #D9D9D9
    Background: #525252

  • Select your gradient tool and set it to "Reflected", now take it, stick it about in the middle of the canvas and then drag it down (be sure to go straight, so you don't get a funny reflection, try holding shift) to the end of the canvas and maybe a bit past. Be sure to experiment with this until you get something you like.

  • Now click the little "f" button on the bottom of the layers palette, and go to "Bevel and Emboss". Now put these values in.
    Style: Inner Bevel
    Technique: Smooth
    Depth: 371%
    Direction: Up
    Size: 4
    Soften: 0
    Angle: 120
    Use Global Light: Unchecked
    Altitude: 30
    Gloss Contour: Linear
    Anti-aliased: Unchecked
    Highlight Mode: Screen
    Color: #000000
    Opacity: 75%
    Shadow Mode: Multiply
    Color: #000000
    Opacity: 75%


  • Okay, one last step. Click the "Contours" button, and then put in the following values.

    Contour: Rounded Steps
    Anti-aliased: Unchecked
    Range: 50%

  • All done =) There are a LOT of things you can do with this. One of my favorites it to use it as a signature for a forum, or for a webpage template. There are a lot of things that can be done with this, and it's a nice looking effect.
